Descriptions:

L-Tryptophan is a white crystalline powder, odorless or slightly odorless, with a slight bitter taste. Melting point 289, long - time light color. Coheating with water produces a small amount of indoles. If heated in the presence of sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate, much indole is produced. Heat tryptophan and acid in dark place, stable. It is easily decomposed when it coexists with other amino acids, sugars and aldehydes. In the absence of hydrocarbons, it is stable when heated to 125 with 5mol/L sodium hydroxide. When protein is broken down with acids, tryptophan is completely broken down to form black matter. Slightly soluble in water (1.1g/100ml, 25).Tryptophan is an important precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin and one of the essential amino acids of human body.
